The Utah Multi-Family Housing project was developed in collaboration with Complete Community Housing Solutions (CCHS) as a 15-unit, three-story affordable housing development in San Diego. The design focuses on creating a contemporary residential building that provides efficient housing while contributing a strong architectural identity to the surrounding neighborhood.
A defining feature of the project is the use of V-shaped structural columns that extend from the ground level to the roof overhang. These structural elements create a distinctive visual rhythm along the façade while expressing the building’s structural system as a prominent architectural feature.
The building massing breaks the overall form into vertical sections, helping reduce the perceived scale of the structure while creating a dynamic façade composition. These vertical elements are balanced by bold horizontal roof lines and overhangs, producing a strong architectural rhythm across the building.
The underside of the roof soffit is finished in blue, intentionally reflecting the color of the San Diego sky and adding a subtle yet memorable design element to the structure.
The result is a contemporary affordable housing development that combines clear structural expression, thoughtful massing, and community-focused residential design.
