San Marcos 2nd Story ADU Design

    Second Floor Spanish Modern ADU

    San Marcos, California

    Project Overview

This project involved the design of a second-floor accessory dwelling unit (ADU) located in San Marcos, California. The ADU was carefully designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing residence while maintaining the architectural character of the home.

The design adopts a Spanish modern architectural approach, combining clean contemporary forms with elements inspired by traditional California Spanish architecture. The materials, proportions, and detailing were thoughtfully developed to ensure the ADU blends naturally with the existing structure rather than appearing as a separate addition.

Located on the second floor, the ADU maximizes the use of the property’s footprint while creating a private and functional living space. The interior layout is organized to bring natural light into the living areas while maintaining privacy between the main residence and the accessory dwelling unit.

The result is a well-integrated ADU that expands the home’s living capacity while maintaining a cohesive architectural identity throughout the property.
