Located in the coastal hillside neighborhood of Fire Mountain in Oceanside, California, this project involved the renovation and expansion of an existing Craftsman-style residence situated on a one-acre property. The design focuses on strengthening the home’s connection to ocean views while improving the overall functionality and spatial organization of the residence.

The main house was expanded to create a new open kitchen and living area that flows directly to a west-facing deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean. A new lower level was introduced to provide additional living space oriented toward the ocean, featuring large sliding glass doors that open to the surrounding landscape and maximize natural light.

The project also includes a detached accessory dwelling unit (ADU) designed with open ceilings that create a sense of spaciousness within the compact footprint. The ADU incorporates a lower-level garage and an upper-level living area with a west-facing deck that captures ocean views and coastal breezes.

The design takes advantage of the natural grade of the one-acre Fire Mountain site, allowing the main residence and ADU to sit at different elevations. This approach enhances privacy between structures while creating a layered relationship between the architecture and the surrounding coastal landscape.

The result is a thoughtfully integrated coastal property that blends Craftsman architectural character with contemporary indoor-outdoor living.
